Professors Broman and Robèrt Recognized for World-Leading Sustainability Research

Professors Göran Broman and Karl-Henrik Robèrt of the Blekinge Institute of Technology and co-founders of the Real Change Research Network were jointly nominated as finalists for The Globe Sustainability Research Award on March 4th, 2011. As finalists, their research is recognized to be among the six most outstanding and relevant internationally to the field of sustainability. The distinguished jury is led by the Nobel Prize Laureate Professor Mohan Munasinghe and the evaluation includes five dimensions:

1. the originality of the research,

2. the practical applicability of the research,

3. the importance of the research for economic development,

4. the importance of the research for the environment and

5. the importance of the research for social development and the development of society as a whole.

The work of professors Broman and Robèrt on the development of an overarching methodology for strategic sustainable development and aligned methods and tools, and their work on making this widely accessible at a time when it is needed the most is crucial and ground-breaking. The methodology, known as the Framework for Strategic Sustainable Development (FSSD), has been developed theoretically, tested through application, refined and re-tested in a continuous process over the last two decades. This has created a highly practical methodology with hundreds of testimonials demonstrating its ability for advanced and logical problem solving in complex systems as well as the ability to support innovation and value-creation in businesses, municipalities and regions.
