Twin Ports, Minnesota and Wisconsin, United States
In the fall of 2008, 14 businesses and organizations from the Twin Ports communities of Superior, Wisconsin and Duluth, Minnesota committed to becoming ‘Early Adopters’ of sustainability. The Early Adopter organizations are taking part in a year-long program which includes six days of formal training, analysis of best practices in sustainability, networking and coaching.
The Natural Step Canada was engaged by Sustainable Twin Ports, an organization dedicated to furthering economic, environmental, and social sustainability in the Twin Ports and western Lake Superior region. The Early Adopters are being followed in their journey by a documentary film making team, who are tracking their progress through a series of brief videos posted to YouTube by Sustainable Twin Ports Committee member Chani Becker. Both the Duluth City Council and the Douglas County Board of Supervisors have passed resolutions adopting The Natural Step principles of sustainability and are partners in the early adopters program. Visit the Sustainable Twin Ports' website for more details on the project.
