Swedish meetings industry takes action for sustainability
The Natural Step is pleased to welcome the Green Meetings Industry Council to Sweden with the recent launch of their local chapter. The Green Meeting Industry Council (GMIC) is a global not for profit organization that focuses on environmental and sustainability issues in the meetings industry. With members in over 20 countries, GMIC has a mission to advance meetings industry innovation through knowledge sharing, education, and research. The Natural Step has formed a strategic partnership with the GMIC and, as elsewhere around the world, we are looking forward to working with the local chapter here in Sweden.
GMIC Sweden is founded with the generous support of some of Sweden’s leading actors in sustainable business practices: Arenabolaget in Linköping, Gothenburg Convention Bureau, Kistamässan, Luleå Convention Bureau, MCI Sweden, Stockholm Visitors Board, Stockholmsmässan, Svenskamässan, Visit Sweden and Visit East Sweden DMC. For more information about the launch of the local chapter, you can read the press release (see links below).
Background on our collaboration:In 2010 the GMIC adopted The Natural Step Framework and since then the two organizations have been working together on a number of initiatives to promote education, research and communication on strategic sustainability issues in the meetings industry. When announcing the partnership with The Natural Step, Jan Peter Bergkvist, then Director of the board of GMIC, stated:
“We can expect not only to benefit from what is, perhaps, the most robust and science-based definition of sustainability in the world, but also to see how the systems thinking will help GMIC to create even more powerful education and training materials, as well as the administration of the organization itself”.
