Building on a great meeting at the MREA Fair we’d like to take it one step further and offer two breakout sessions on issues folks have expressed interest in: influencing businesses and elected officials, and working with Transition Towns and other methods.
Breakout 1: Building a Ladder to Higher Fruit
Tips for influencing business and government leaders. Objectives are to
• outline common organizing principles to help you gain access to the right people
• provide tools to define your message
• help map your leverage points
Join fellow business, government, education and community leaders for an interactive, half-day workshop on the tangible benefits of embracing sustainability with a firm introduction to The Natural Step Framework. Building on the business case for the triple-bottom-line, you will learn the basics of The Natural Step, and hear case studies demonstrating successful implementation of the Framework.
Media advertising can be effective in creating public awareness and understanding of issues related to sustainability, but are limited in their ability to foster behaviour change. In this webinar, Dr. Doug McKenzie-Mohr will explore how community-based social marketing, an approach to promoting behavioural change at the community level, can foster action-oriented, community-led outcomes, and how it is being applied throughout the world to foster sustainable behaviour. He will introduce the five steps of commu¬nity-based social marketing: selecting behaviours, identifying barriers & benefits, developing strategies, conducting a pilot, and broad scale implementation.

It is an intensive 2-day practical course designed to build understanding of how to transform your organization’s approach to sustainability in order to achieve strategic advantages and long-term leadership in your industry and/or community. Participants of this course will gain the knowledge and skills to understand, apply and communicate a compelling science based systems approach to sustainability, based on The Natural Step Framework. This course will focus in particular on the ability to present the core concepts of The Natural Step Framework with confidence.
