Toward a Sustainable Community: A Toolkit for Local Government
Toward a Sustainable Community: A Toolkit for Local Government is a University of Wisconsin Extension publication co-authored by Sherrie Gruder, Anna Haines, Jerry Hembd, Jane Silberstein and Lisa McKinnon was recently printed.
The purpose of this toolkit is to provide ideas and descriptions of specific actions that a local government can take to transform itself into a model of sustainable practices. These are practices that can result in cost savings and increased employment, as well as enhance environmental quality and community well-being. The message of this toolkit is simple: local governments can lead by example. The toolkit provides some background on the Natural Step framework and shares some of the recent examples from emerging eco-municipalities. It also provides a number of resources and references to assist communities. It was written with Wisconsin communities in mind but those communities outside WI will also find it useful.
