Dr Morgan Williams (chair) served as the Parliamentary Commission for the Environment for many years. He has degrees in biology and ecology and extensive experience in agricultural, environmental, pest and ecological research and policy, particularly as they relate to the sustainability of land uses and the information exchange in rural and agribusiness communities. He has published widely on ecological and pest management matters and contributed to several books and has represented New Zealand on three Australian inter-governmental committees and undertaken many consultancies in the Pacific Islands and Australia. Most of this experience was gained during 20 years with MAF and a short period in Agriculture New Zealand — part of the Wrightson Group.
Dr Lin Roberts is a Board member of TNS New Zealand and represents NZ on the board of TNS International. In 2004 she was appointed as Chief Executive Officer of TNS NZ. She has been involved in The Natural Step since 1996, is an accredited TNS adviser, and established and managed the Pathfinder Programme 2000-2003. She is Director of Business and Environment Consultants, and served as a member of the Environmental Risk Management Authority 2002-2004.
Lin teaches an MBA course at the University of Canterbury entitled "Building Sustainable Businesses" and is an honorary lecturer at Lincoln University. Previous activities includes membership of an international Expert Panel on Trade and Sustainable Development; a Claude McCarthy Fellowship at Victoria University; and employment as Manager of Hazards & Waste Policy Directorate at the Ministry for the Environment in Wellington, and as a scientist at DSIR Entomology Division.
Dr Wayne Cartwright is currently Adjunct Professor of Strategic Management in the Department of International Business, University of Auckland, where he teaches strategic management in the MBA, Master of International Business and MCom Programmes. His fields of research and consultancy include corporate and business strategy, management for sustainability, corporate governance and ethics, international competitive strategy, and strategy and organisation of land-based industries. He is also a company director and trustee, serving as Chairman of CER Group Ltd, which is a listed company specialising in organic and natural products, as a Council member of SANZ, and a Trustee of Enterprise Franklin Trust Board.
Phil Ker is CEO of the Otago Polytechnic, a corporate partner of TNS in New Zealand. He is also on the boards of Ako Aotearoa, TANZ, and Te Tapuae o Rehua.
Phil has had a diverse set of experiences and has developed a broad portfolio of expertise as both an academic and an administrator in both university and polytechnic environments. Roles have included lecturing in business (accounting, economics and management) and tertiary teacher education; staff development and management of student services, human resources and property functions. He has a long standing interest in business education, and a strong current interest in education for sustainability.
Gillian Wratt is Chief Executive of Cawthron Institute, a research and consulting organisation based in Nelson, and owned by the Cawthron Institute Trust Board. Cawthron Institute provides research based solutions on coastal and freshwater sustainability and environmental issues, and for the aquaculture and food industries.
Gillian managed New Zealand’s Antarctic programme for ten years, as Chief Executive of Antarctica New Zealand. She has also chaired the international Antarctic managers’ forum – the Council of Managers of National Antarctic Programmes, and was vice chair of the Antarctic Treaty Committee for Environmental Protection. Over this period New Zealand played a significant leadership role in environmental initiatives in Antarctica. Gillian received a Member of the NZ Order of Merit (MNZM) award in 2004 for services to Antarctica. She has also had an involvement with negotiating environment agreements alongside New Zealand’s free trade agreements, for the Ministry for the Environment.
Wendy McGuiness CA, BCom, MBA
Wendy McGuinness is the Chief Executive of Sustainable Future www.sustainablefuture.info, a non-partisan, not-for-profit research organisation specialising in issues affecting New Zealand. Currently, Sustainable Future is working on a three year project called Project 2058; the purpose of which is to develop a strategy for New Zealand's long-term future. Sustainable Future hopes establishing this strategy will add to the dialogue around the promotion of integrated long-term thinking, leadership and capacity-building so that New Zealand can effectively explore and manage risks and opportunities over the next 50 years.
Wendy is also a chartered accountant specialising in risk management. Throughout her career, Wendy has been involved in many roles with the NZ Institute of Chartered Accountants. Besides being on the Board of The Natural Step, Wendy is also on the Board of the Katherine Mansfield Birthplace Trust, as well as being a member of the Advisory Group for Statistics New Zealand's Framework for Measuring Sustainable Development.
