Rahumathulla Marikkar

General Manager of Belletile Inc. Canada's only manufacturer of carpet tile. Rahumathulla was instrumental in establishing the newly found company to re-employ the skilled workforce who lost their long career jobs when a global manufacturer ceased operations in Canada. Rahumathulla Marikkar is a Chemical Engineer and former Director of Technology and Environment with InterfaceFLOR Commercial (Canada). 

Rahumathulla is well known in the manufacturing sector for challenging the conventional approach to carpet manufacturing and introducing innovative systems, integrating manufacturing, product performance, pollution prevention and business economics in a systemic way. This approach yielded simultaneous gains in financial, economic, social and environmental benefits. His achievements are well documented in many publications and media over many years since early 1990's.

Rahumathulla received the national award for extraordinary individual leadership towards the voluntary reduction of greenhouse gases from Canada’s Voluntary challenge registry Inc. He was the chair of the general manufacturing taskforce of CIPEC for over 6 years; member on the North American Green Procurement Initiative steering committee, a CEC sponsored multi stakeholder advisory group and a former board member of the Healthy Indoor Partnership, a multi stakeholder group on indoor air quality. Besides this, he has also participated in several advisory groups such as Year 2000 Greening of the Budget group, Environment Canada’s product, policy and tools for pollution prevention. He is a member of the national indoor air quality advisory group, the guideline review committee for green energy certification in Canada and the advisory group revising Environment Canada’s Accelerated Reduction/Elimination of Toxics (ARET) program. He has worked closely with many Government, NGOs, Universities and Industries in promoting and adopting sustainable development practices. He has regularly contributed as a speaker in many sustainable development conferences
